Zu’s Earth by Sidney Rushing

Picture
A 14 person play about the after shocks of the African diaspora in 1970’s Gaston Point Mississippi. The lives and history of the descendants and the ghosts of Creole, Gullah, Ivory Coast, Vietnamese war veterans, Haiti, the black Choctaw, Middle Passage, and Yoruba all intersect in a feud over land rights to a barber shop after the death of the local patriarch.

A beautiful new play by Sidney Rushing featuring live music, call and response, voodoo, and a crash course in the tangled history of African American genealogy and inheritance. My second studio show as an MFA at Texas State and my first costume and scenic design.
