Mr. Burns by Anne Washburn
A post apocalyptic play that spans over 77 years, where survivors’ memories of old Simpsons episodes are told first as entertainment and distraction, then staged and produced as theatrical productions as a means of survival and sustenance, and then finally become a grand opera memorializing the survival of humanity.
A brilliant fantastical exploration about memory, art, and the ever present problem of “Not knowing.”
This was my MFA Thesis production at Texas State University, with an original score commissioned from the incredible Ashleigh Stone. https://ashleighstonemusic.wixsite.com/ashleighstonemusic
Original music, a small quartet of musicians, pit singers, blood packs, live gun shots, sword fights, a cappella medleys, a lot of funny wigs and wild costumes, and more water bottles collected by the Texas State Scenic Design interns than anyone thought possible.
Scenic design by Michelle Ney, Lighting Design by Sydney R. Smith, and Costumes by Ryan S. Sozzi.
